Think about a time at work when a manager recognised your efforts, or a member of your team thanked you for being supportive. Remember how you felt when you were on the receiving end of somebody else’s gratitude. Now consider how someone else might feel if you passed on your gratitude to them.

How can our recruiters understand the anxiety and uncertainty that our candidates feel when moving from one casual job to another? Or how about the surge of nervousness that our candidates feel when interviewing for a permanent role? How can we, as a recruitment agency, encourage empathy for what every person our recruiters speak to over the phone feels each day?

When I set up a 300 square metre warehouse in Williamstown, Victoria in August 2004, my belief was simple. Imagine how much better the world could be if everyone treated people how they want to be treated.

Make People Matter. We keep saying this. But are we willing to go to extraordinary lengths to understand why the people we help to find work are sitting across from us at the interview table? 

I believe in the world-changing potential that each person has in them. If every person will strive to become the best version of themselves - in their work, and in their relationships, they will change the world of the people around them for the better. Change has a ripple effect. People who get the best treatment, pay it forward. Suddenly, the world becomes a better place.

Our vision for Zoom is to be the market leader in the provision of labour and labour services. An innovator in digitisation, service delivery and value-added services. We don’t just put bums on seats. That’s why year after year, we strategically move our chess pieces to making this vision a reality. At the beginning of the year, we had big plans on how we were going to take our business to the next level, make a big impact on the recruitment industry, and challenge why we do what we do.

Then COVID-19 happened.
