THE CHALLENGE:
When a national Manufacturing company reached out to us in July 2021 about a particularly complex full-time role, we jumped on board to find a permanent recruitment solution. The role was for a specialist technical position that combined strong mathematical and engineering skills with exceptional communication, customer service and people skills. The person in the role of the Technical / Engineering Officer would be providing technical support for clients and having face-to-face interactions with them.
Our client is the Australian division of a global specialist manufacturer of high-quality equipment used across a variety of high-risk industries including construction, transport, defence, and mining. In Australia, their products have contributed to safer and more efficient working conditions.
UNDERSTANDING COMPANY CULTURE:
To be able to find the right fit for a role, we needed to understand the intricacies of the position’s responsibilities as well as the company’s culture. So, we spent some time with the client to understand exactly which skills and characteristics they wanted their ideal candidate to have.
Our client was time poor and had previously used other agencies to assist with filling some senior roles. However, the issue our client had highlighted was that it was challenging to find candidates who were passionate about their industry and a great match for their company culture. And our client was aware that this specialist technical position was a challenging one to fill.
SEEKING THE RIGHT FULL-TIME TECHNICAL / ENGINEERING OFFICER:
After understanding our client’s needs and their stringent hiring requirements, we carried out extensive searches and tapped into our qualified talent pool so that we could start identifying candidates who could be the right fit for the role. We spent some time discussing the role with our candidates and also getting to know their aspirations and expectations. This helped us to identify who would be a good fit for the company culture.
We found a very strong candidate for the position who lived interstate and was willing to relocate for the job. But Covid-19 had other plans… Between all the lockdowns and border restrictions, it became a logistical nightmare for the candidate to move. So, we had to continue our search and find another solution with an equally strong local candidate.

Although the full-time Engineering / Technical Officer role was proving difficult to fill because of uncontrollable external factors, we remained committed to finding the right person for our client. Our in-depth understanding of our client’s company culture helped us to find the right Procurement Manager, Business Development Manager, Customer Service Manager, and IT Manager for them.
