Delivering Excellence in Every Job Request We Fill

Dec 16, 2021 10:15:00 AM / by Katherine Bowker

Would you turn away a small request for staff with complex onboarding requirements?

While every candidate goes through our standard online onboarding process and functional capacity test, many of our clients have more complex onboarding requirements. We invest time in finding out what our clients need and then see how we can incorporate that into our own onboarding processes to provide the best possible solutions. This could mean including a walk-through for candidates on our client’s site before they start working there or it could mean administering an online test on behalf of the client at the end of our onboarding process. It could involve arranging police checks for candidates or ensuring that safety inductions and specific medicals are done before staff go out to work.

For our mining client, we set ourselves apart by demonstrating an in-depth understanding of the complex onboarding requirements that they required. These included things like background screening and reference checks, pre-employment medicals, drug and alcohol testing and also ensuring our candidates had the correct documentation for compliance, such as relevant qualifications to operate the machinery.

THE POWER OF RECOMMENDATION:

Having the opportunity to partner with a major mining company could take years, but one of our existing transport and logistics clients recommended us to them. In a world that is saturated with advertising and media, the power of a recommendation is what gives businesses a competitive edge. Recommendations like this reduce risk for a client because they know that we’re likely to provide exceptional service since we’ve done it for our other clients. This kind of trust goes a long way in the recruitment industry because people are more likely to engage with businesses that a trusted source has recommended.

Our client is a large public company that works in the field of mining and refinery and the operation of shipping terminals. They require a consistent supply of mobile plant operators to work across their sites in Western Australia.

A SMALL OPPORTUNITY GROWS INTO AN ONGOING RELATIONSHIP:

We were in a situation where our client had only requested 5 casual staff over a 6-month period. The technology and systems we have available to us meant that we were able to find candidates with the right qualifications to meet our client’s needs. In addition to this, one of our team members, Lea, created alternative candidate sourcing strategies by establishing an excellent referral system in the mining areas. We established our credibility by providing consistently high-quality staff, and also worked quickly to provide what was required for our client’s onboarding processes. As a result, our client kept asking us to supply more and more staff to their worksites. In the true spirit of Zoom Recruitment, we were able to overdeliver as consultants and provide around 30 staff during this time. And so, what was meant to be a short-term relationship with our mining client turned into an ongoing one as we ramped up their number of mobile plant operators in a very short time.

THE RELATIONSHIPS (PEOPLE) COME FIRST:

We’re a tight-knit team at our Perth branch, and as a result, there’s been very little staff turnover. The benefit of this is that our client knows our staff well and there’s a sense of trust and respect. Our team member, Lea, received some amazing feedback from our client on her responsiveness, high-quality work, exceptional attention to detail and the speed at which she turns things around. It’s this type of outstanding consultancy that has been instrumental in building strong and lasting relationships.

It’s in our DNA to be excellent at what we do, no matter the status of our client or size of their business. It’s also part of the fabric of Zoom Recruitment to go above and beyond without thinking about the return.

Although we were initially contracted to provide blue-collar labour, because our reputation precedes us, we’re being referred to other departments like engineering and project management. It’s exciting to be developing a speciality in professional and technical recruitment in the Heavy Industrial space. The long-standing relationship that we’ve built with our mining client is testimony to the collaborative and mutually respectful nature of the relationship we have with them.
