CURRENT TRENDS IN THE RECRUITMENT INDUSTRY:
The industry has moved from extremely high rates of unemployment to low rates of unemployment, and as a result, the industry has shifted from being an employer's market to being an employee’s market.
Attracting talent has never been as important as it currently is in our existing market. This is mainly due to the extremely high level of vacancies across almost all industries in Australia.
EFFECTS OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC:
Covid-19 has set several changes in motion and created new trends in the recruitment industry. Lack of certainty around what the future holds means that a number of people will opt to stay in their current roles. This has reduced the pool of candidates in some industries, making it more challenging for recruiters to meet their clients’ needs.
Many people have adapted to working from home. Some people love it, and some people don't. For many people who are enjoying the flexibility of working from home, they would be less inclined to explore or accept another role if the same flexibility wasn't available.
ADVICE FOR BUSINESSES LOOKING TO HIRE STAFF IN THE PRESENT EMPLOYMENT MARKET:
The number one piece of advice would be to keep an open mind. In our current market where there is a skills shortage, businesses need to be more open and agile when looking to hire.
Clients need to consider and understand their 'sales pitch'. Leaders in businesses need to understand that in the current market, they need to sell the benefits of joining their business to their candidates. There's a great deal of choice for job seekers, so business leaders and hiring managers need to understand and explain what sets their company apart from the rest.
Once someone has been hired, ensure that new people have all the necessary tools to do their job and ensure training is provided where needed for the employee to be effective in their role.
Our permanent recruitment consultants are skilled at building relationships with suitable candidates so that they find people who have the right skills and who are the best cultural fit for a company. Getting to know candidates’ goals and career aspirations also means that they’ll be more likely to be placed in roles where they’ll want to stay and grow with the company.
