It’s Good Friday 2020, and with a massive spike in mailing demand, one of the largest post and parcel companies in Australia needed 84 skilled personnel by Sunday. Easter Sunday.
When it comes to our clients, one thing rules our decision making above all else – our drive to empower and mould the people we work with through the skilled people we advocate. So we stepped up to the challenge and stood behind our word of getting things done. In essence, we aim to be another arm of our client’s business, acting as a consultant to their deeper needs, not just a service to their surface wants.
Precision is the name of the game in the Post and Parcel sector, and our goal to deliver for our clients over and over again even in tight timeframes powers our drive and momentum.
In our years of staffing and recruitment in the Post and Parcel sector, nothing has shown this drive more readily than our experience with Australia’s leading mail supplier. Our enduring partnership with them has seen its share of challenges but during these unprecedented times, we have experienced an astronomical increase in demand throughout the COVID-19 pandemic to sort and deliver more than 2 million parcels per day.
In addition to needing casual staff for their national network of parcel and letter centres, our client opened 15 new pop-up sites, ultimately engaging over 600 new casual staff through this -the busiest period they had experienced in recent history.
Good Friday, a frantic call comes in with delivery requirements asking for 84 skilled personnel by Easter Sunday. With only a few days’ notice, and working through the holiday weekend, our Dandenong team with staff from other branches jumping in to help, were able to react and deliver on the company’s casual staffing requirements, while sticking to the stringent onboarding protocols. We could read the client’s needs and had the drive to do what needed to be done, all while managing strict COVID-19 restrictions. To us, this ‘sacrifice’ of a weekend, and the drive of our team, it’s what makes Zoom, Zoom.
Of course, we all love time at home, and mourn the missed weekends, but when a job needs to get done, we get on top of it with all hands on deck. Our teams’ willingness to sacrifice for the sake of our clients brings us pride beyond words.
Needless to say, our team delivered in full and on time. Zoom Recruitment Post and Parcel casual staff were engaged on day and afternoon shifts, 7 days a week, even staying on well after the crisis was over to help cover on-call shifts.
It’s these whims and quickly changing circumstances that makes this sector so tricky to recruit for, and it’s what makes us so uniquely equipped to handle its needs.
If there’s one thing our work in the Post and Parcel sector has taught us, it’s that it’s not just all about service - it’s about being there for each other, both internally and externally.
Ultimately, it’s our ability to stay quick and nimble, adjusting to evolving needs that makes us a valuable partner in the Post and Parcel sector, and our ability to deliver is what gets us up in the morning. It’s what we do best.
If you are managing a mail centre or searching for a Post or Parcel staff, let us know and we'll jump in and support you with your staffing or recruitment challenges.
