Working Overtime to Meet Our Client’s Needs

What does the spike in demand for immunity supplements caused by the Covid-19 pandemic have to do with Zoom Recruitment?

Our client is an ASX listed leading natural health supplements company that offers a wide range of wellness solutions to consumers in several different countries. Over the course of 15 years, we’ve built a long-standing relationship with this client, working with them to move to larger premises as their operations expanded. We know them, we’ve supplied to them for a long time, and we know what works for them.

IN-DEPTH RECRUITMENT PROCESSES:

During this time, our team has provided in-depth recruitment processes for this Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) client, including procedures such as targeted interviews and additional Goods Manufacturing Practice (GMP) Testing. We invest a lot of time into carefully profiling each candidate for our FMCG client.

Our targeted interviews assess candidates’ suitability by finding out whether they have worked in a similar industry, if they have transferable skills and how they will succeed with different aspects of the work such as manual handling skills, high attention to detail and labelling. These targeted interviews are also aimed at assessing which candidates would be the best cultural fit for our client.

The GMP Testing is the main regulatory standard for making sure that pharmaceutical quality is met. It can take all day for candidates to complete the 2 compulsory modules and a pass mark of 80% is required to get through the test. We used to run testing at our Dee Why Branch but, because of the lockdowns, the testing has shifted to video conferencing or over the phone.

In this way, we’ve been able to provide ongoing casual staff for our client – making sure that we always provide the best possible people to meet their high standards.

"Through the conversations we have with candidates and supervisors, we realise how important the role is that we play with companies. We’re the ones selecting the people who will work with that company – it’s all about finding the right fit for them."

THE EFFECTS OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC:

Before the Covid-19 pandemic, providing staff for our client was never about bulk numbers. But suddenly when Covid-19 hit, there was a huge demand for our client’s immunity products and as a result, they re-introduced their nightshift - which they had done away with in 2018. What this meant was delivering our in-depth recruitment procedures to provide about 20 to 25 process workers and another 5 forklift drivers in the warehouse in a month.

This was no simple feat. Not everyone wants to work nightshift and it’s generally a difficult shift to fill. There was also a job market shift because of Covid-19, where people were taking other jobs just to stay employed. With the candidate shortage in the job market, it meant that we needed to tap into our networks and work through our referrals.

RISING TO THE CHALLENGE:

But we did it. Meeting our client’s order meant a series of late nights, early mornings, weekend work, and Bluetooth calls in the car. But through hard work and dedication, we got our client through that initial tough time when they started running the night shift.

One of my prouder moments at Zoom Recruitment was being in the meeting for the national contract and being able to explain how we have successfully worked with this client over the years. Our Dee Why branch won the national contract with this client and now our Eastern Creek, NSW and Dandenong, VIC branches also supply to them.
