Walking a Mile in our Candidates’ Shoes

Oct 12, 2021 4:04:33 PM / by Nathan Webb

Make People Matter. We keep saying this. But are we willing to go to extraordinary lengths to understand why the people we help to find work are sitting across from us at the interview table?

Walk a Mile - Resized and BrightenedHow can we empathise with our people during their recruitment journey, and ultimately, improve this journey? Because we work in the role of selection and assessment, we must first understand what it feels like to sit across from ourselves - being evaluated and judged. We can talk about this all we like. Or we can experience it.

ENCOURAGING EMPATHY

Our objective was to encourage the empathy needed to understand what it’s like to be the person on the other side of the recruitment journey. We know that for our candidates, the right interview and the right opportunity can change everything. And it’s our job to empower our candidates to be the right person at the right time. To walk a mile in their shoes, we decided to put a few of our Account Managers in the highly stressful situation of judgement, as if their livelihoods depended on it. And to keep it authentic, we did it in secret.

ROLE REVERSAL

We wanted to know how our people would respond when the roles were reversed. So, a few of our Account Managers were invited to a meeting they knew nothing about with a third-party interviewer. They were told their jobs could be in danger and their answers to 5 questions held the key to their future employment.

Will this interview change the way they do their jobs forever? Will they have a better understanding of why every interview, every job and every person matters? With their every move documented, we share their stories through this video, to show the world what it really means to Walk a Mile.
